Belongs to the Glassport universe.

Warnings: Neglectful parents, near death experience, implied alcoholicism, hurt/nocomfort.

Pay special attention: Maggie is very much not okay right now, and it shows. The inside of her head is not a happy place at the moment, and at this point in the story, she is not yet receiving the help she needs. Please take your mental state into consideration before reading.

It's late, when Maggie gets home, the night after her run in with Doctor Skull. All the lights are out, and the house is silent as she unlocks the door and steps inside.
In a different sort of world, there would have been someone waiting up for her. A concerned parent, wondering what kept their teenaged daughter up all night-
But this isn't that sort of world. There's not even anyone passed out on the couch tonight, and she can't help the flash of bitter relief. At least she doesn't have to worry about waking anyone, huh?
She should go straight to bed. It's what Sage would advise, and she feels like she's run a marathon. But her head is too busy to sleep- and half on autopilot, she starts gathering the glass bottles scattered across the floor, quietly and carefully depositing them into a bag as she turns over the days events in her head.
She'd nearly died. She'd nearly died- she'd expected to die. She'd been relieved that she was only going to die, that at least it would be quick- and god, how fucked up is that?
How fucked up is it that she'd been in a position where 'just' dying was a relief?
She should wake them. Tell them. Their daughter nearly died. Don't they have a right to know?
...Would they even believe her?
They never have before, after all. They don't even believe her about her power coming in.
They'd probably just get mad at her for waking them up over what they'd probably think was just a nightmare.
No. Better to not.
She retreats to her room when her tidying is done, dropping down onto her bed and curling up on her side. She hugs her pillow to herself, staring at the wall for a long time- then digging into her pocket, pulling out her phone and tapping the screen.
Maybe her parents won't believe her. But Lain, Bella, and Zan will, at least. And that has to count for something.
